UMPI Owls are an incredible breed. They work hard, make important contributions in their career fields, serve their communities, and do all kinds of other things that make the world around us a better place. So we’ve created this space to showcase what our UMPI alums have been up to since they graduated, spread their wings, and soared on to great heights.
All UMPI alums are encouraged to show their UMPI pride by purchasing and wearing the new snowy owl lapel pin, which features a snowy owl with its wings outstretched in flight. “Where have your wings taken you?” is the question that accompanies this pin. To answer that question, alums are encouraged to take a photo that shows them wearing their pin—either in their professional roles or enjoying adventures all around the world—and post them and their stories to this website.
Click the pins on the map above to see alumni posts, or use the search form below to see all the alums (and the details they’ve shared) that fit the parameters you choose. And be sure to check out the testimonials our alums have written. Maybe you’ll find old classmates or maybe you’ll learn about the exciting things a graduate from a particular major is doing in his or her career. No matter what you find, we hope you’ll be inspired. And if you’re an UMPI Owl, we hope you’ll take part and let the world know where your wings have taken you!
When I returned to the states after overseas assignments in the military, I was accepted into the University of Maine at Presque Isle Theatre and Education departments. The intimate campus and close-knit feel was an ideal setting for growth. My professors, Zubrick, Johnston, Hall, Scott, Anderson, Dow and the rest were complete professionals and made learning a pleasure. I truly miss those days, the Pioneer Playhouse and my college. I visited and spoke there in 2007. It was a wonderful Homecoming!
As a non- traditional student I came to UMPI as a junior/senior. I needed to complete a degree I had started almost a decade prior. My transfer and the acceptance of credits/units from California went smoothly. I am tremendously grateful to the University of Maine at Presque Isle for seeing me through to my dream job. As a Career Transitions Speacialist at Loring Job Corps Center, I get to work for students on and off center as well as collaborate with a fabulously creative team of co-workers. Thank you.
At a recent legislative breakfast I had the great fortune of sitting with UMPI President Linda Schott. Imagine her surprise when we introduced ourselves and she found out that I am an UMPI Owl! As she told me of the wonderful, cutting edge initiatives currently happening at UMPI, I couldn't help but reflect back on how important that experience was to me both personally and professionally. The superb individualized instruction and guidance that I received from UMPI faculty was second to none and I am convinced that under Dr. Schott's capable leadership that remains the case today. UMPI remains high on the map of Maine and high in quality as well. Great people yield great results.
If you need an education that is both affordable and dynamic, UMPI is the place to go. The staff and community are what really make the experience. There is never a wrong door and it's a place where adversity is just a 9 letter word for a challenge that can and will be overcome. I will always be proud to be an UMPI owl :)!
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is much the same as life; You get out what you put in. It is a place full of opportunities to learn and grow as a person, and if you are willing to put in the time and work, you can graduate from this fine institution with not only a degree, but also a new and improved version of yourself. The staff and professors at U Maine PI changed my life in an incredible way, and I have no doubt they will go on doing so for many years to come.
Throughout my years at UMPI, I felt welcomed, comfortable and yet challenged. The campus community truly cares about students. At UMPI, I never felt lost in the shuffle.
There were a lot less distractions at UMPI because of its size. I received a more personalized education, learned a lot about myself, and how to study effectively.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle was the perfect choice for me. I have always wanted to make a positive difference in my community and selecting UMPI to pursue my bachelor’s degree provided the opportunity to not only stay here in The County, but to stay involved. I was able to live what I learned in the classroom by engaging in opportunities, both on and off campus, that allowed me to pursue my passion. I credit the faculty and staff at UMPI with not only providing those opportunities, but also providing the nurturing and supportive environment I needed to succeed. The high quality, yet affordable cost of my UMPI education coupled with the support of my family, allowed me to begin my professional life with no college debt and a wealth of experience that served as the foundation for my career.
